Not all do. AC charging speed is limited by your vehicle's onboard charger, not just the wallbox. Many European EVs support 11kW AC charging on a three-phase supply, some only 7.4kW on a single-phase supply, and fewer support the full 22kW. Check your vehicle's specifications before buying — if it is limited to 11kW, an 11kW charger may be the better-value choice. 

A 22kW charger requires a 400V three-phase connection with a 32A circuit. A certified electrician must confirm that your home's electrical supply can support the load and install the correct circuit protection and RCD. If you only have a single-phase supply, the maximum charging power available is 7.4kW. 

Tethered models come with a permanently attached 5m Type 2 cable, so you can simply plug in and charge. Socket models do not include a cable, giving you the flexibility to use different cable lengths, but you will need to buy and store a separate Type 2 cable. Tethered models are simpler for daily home use, while socket models are better suited to shared or multi-vehicle setups. 

Only if your vehicle supports more than 11kW AC charging and you have a three-phase supply. If your EV is limited to 11kW, both chargers deliver the same charging speed, so an 11kW unit is usually the better choice. A 22kW charger is worth considering if your vehicle supports it or if you want headroom for a future EV. 

Selected models qualify when configured with the required accessories, such as a compatible smart meter. Eligibility and grant amounts vary by country, so check the current requirements of your national grant scheme before ordering.
